1.- Grant for a PhD thesis on the presence and availability of antibiotics in natural waters
The thesis will extend the application of the analytical technique DGT (Diffusion Gradients in Thin films) to less common analytes such as antibiotics. Possible applications: environmental and animal health studies, ecotoxicology, food analysis. The thesis will have an experimental focus working with the preparation of passive samplers, deployment and analysis with instrumentation (HPLC-MS).
Supervisors of this thesis: C. Rey-Castro and J. Puy.
Specific requirement for the position: Skill in handling laboratory samples avoiding contamination.
2.- Grant for a PhD thesis on Metal Speciation
The thesis will focus on the interpretation of the technique DGT (Diffusion Gradients in Thin Films), to gain an understanding of the measurements in mixtures of ligands, metal ions and other nutrients and contaminants. Possible applications: environmental, toxicological and agrifood studies (from dissolution of nanoparticles to the impact of metals and other nutrients and contaminants in natural waters). The thesis will have a theoretical focus with modeling and numerical simulation.

Specific requirement for the position: Programming knowledge (in Fortran, C+ or analogous).
3.- Grant for a PhD thesis on Metal Speciation
The thesis will extend the application of the electroanalytical technique AGNES (Absence of Gradients and Nernstian Equilibrium Stripping), such as the analysis of Zn in biological samples. Possible applications: human and animal health studies, ecotoxicology, environmental and food analysis. The thesis will have an experimental focus with the candidate working with potentiostats and polarographic stands.

Specific requirements for the position: Skill in working in the chemistry lab.
COMMON TO 3 THESES:
The hosting research group in the Universitat de Lleida (Catalonia, Spain) has published more than 50 articles in high impact journals since 2011. The group seeks to understand how different analytical techniques can provide information on speciation of the elements, which is essential to their bioavailability.
Requirements for the candidates: Very good marks in a degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences or other fields related with Analytical and Physical Chemistry (minimum qualification average 6.5/10) . The Degree studies must have been finished after 1 January 2009. Master studies finished before October 2018. Fluent English. High motivation for research
Applicatants should include: i) a very complete CV (including photo, mails and telephones of 2 or 3 possible scientists for references, birth date, starting date of the degree, date of award of degree, average qualification of the degree, starting date of master, date of award of master, etc.), ii) a motivation letter, iii) the list of the subjects followed in the degree (and in the master) with qualifications and number of credits, i.e. academic transcript (in French: “relevé de notes”, in Spanish “expediente académico”) iv) (highest) certificate of English knowledge and v) a summary (between 0.5 and 2 pages long) of the (research) Master thesis (project or equivalent).
